8kājis is a family business founded by a mother and daughter who have combined their professional knowledge with business experience.
Inga Rutmane-Lazda
Audiologopedist, Master of Health Sciences in Healthcare.
- In cooperation with the faculty of Lund University at Riga Stradiņš University, she created Latvia's first master's and later bachelor's study program „Audiologopēdija”, thus laying the foundations for the audiologopedist profession in Latvia.
- She founded the Latvian Audiologopedists Association and led it for more than 15 years.
- She has gained professional experience in medical, rehabilitation, and educational institutions, as well as in her private practice, where she continues to work today.
- In 2020, she received the Annual Award of the Latvian Medical Association as the best functional specialist.
Rasa Ābelniece
Entrepreneur with experience in international trade.
Rasa takes care of 8kājis daily operations - creates the product range, cooperates with manufacturers from various countries, organizes goods deliveries, and provides customer support. Her task is to find quality, tested, and development-promoting products so that they are available to both families and specialists throughout Latvia.
Together we combine more than 25 years of professional experience in the field of child development with a modern approach to business to offer products that we ourselves trust.
Why we do it
In her practice Inga often encountered the fact that it is difficult to find truly meaningful games and learning materials in Latvia that would help develop specific skills or train certain senses. Therefore, over the years, she created many working materials herself - carefully selected, adapted, and often developed anew.
Increasingly more children need individual support in development, so specialists in kindergartens, schools, and rehabilitation centers need increasingly specific working tools. Searching for them takes a lot of time, while for parents without special knowledge, navigating the wide range of toys and developmental games is often even more complicated.
That's why it was created 8kājis - a place where carefully selected development games and work materials from various manufacturers are gathered together. Each product has been chosen with a clear goal - to help develop certain skills, while maintaining the joy of play and creating an opportunity for children and adults to spend quality time together.
Why the octopus?
The name „8kājis” (octopus) was not chosen by chance. Octopuses are considered the smartest invertebrates in the world. They have both short-term and long-term memory, can distinguish shapes and colours, solve tasks, play with objects and learn new skills. Even more remarkably, they can learn from one another simply by watching.
Curiosity, the desire to find out and learn through experience are the values that inspire us as well.

The „Bimini” sensory room is a natural continuation of our belief that development happens through experience, play and the senses.
Here, a specially designed environment combines light, sound and sensory elements, creating a safe and peaceful space for relaxation, learning and quality time spent together. Every visit is individual, therefore it is possible to visit the room by pre-booking the most suitable time for you.
